MAX14921ECS+ Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAX14921ECS+ is a sophisticated battery measurement analog front-end (AFE) device from Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated, capable of accurately monitoring up to 16 cells. It provides level shifting for primary/secondary battery packs up to +65V maximum. The device simultaneously samples all cell voltages, enabling precise state-of-charge and source-resistance determination with a maximum cell voltage error of ±0.5mV.

Featuring a low-noise, low-offset amplifier, the MAX14921ECS+ buffers differential cell voltages up to +5V, supporting various lithium-ion chemistries, including those with flat discharge curves like lithium-metal phosphate. Integrated diagnostics offer open-wire detection, undervoltage/overvoltage alarms, and thermal shutdown. Communication is handled via a daisy-chainable SPI interface.

This IC is ideal for applications such as industrial and telecom battery backup systems, energy storage packs, and e-transportation energy packs. It operates over an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and is housed in an 80-pin TQFP package suitable for surface mounting.

Key features include self-calibration, integrated cell-balancing FET drivers, and an integrated 5V LDO. The device also supports a low-power shutdown mode with minimal current draw.
