The Analog Devices MAX1481EUB is a software-selectable, half-/full-duplex, low-power RS-485/RS-422 transceiver designed for space-constrained applications. It operates from a single 5V supply and supports data rates up to 12Mbps. The device features a 1/8-unit-load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 transceivers on the bus.
This transceiver is available in a 10-pin µMAX package, noted as the smallest 10-pin package available. It draws only 300µA of supply current, with the MAX1481 variant offering a low-power shutdown mode that reduces current consumption to 0.1µA. Drivers are protected against output short-circuit current and excessive power dissipation via thermal-shutdown circuitry.
The MAX1481/MAX1484 are functionally equivalent to industry-standard MAX491 and 75180, designed for full-duplex RS-422 applications. The MAX1481/MAX1485 feature reduced-slew-rate drivers for error-free data transmission up to 250kbps, minimizing EMI and reflections. The MAX1484/MAX1486 drivers are not slew-rate limited, enabling transmission up to 12Mbps.
