MAX121CWE Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAX121CWE from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a complete, BiCMOS, serial-output, sampling 14-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC). It integrates an on-chip track/hold, a low-drift buried-zener voltage reference, and offers fast conversion speeds with low power consumption. The device achieves a throughput rate of up to 308k samples per second (ksps) and a full-scale analog input range of ±5V.

Utilizing a successive-approximation architecture with a high-speed DAC, the MAX121CWE provides both fast conversion speeds and low-power operation, consuming only 210mW when operating with +5V and -12V or -15V power supplies. It can be directly interfaced to the serial port of most popular digital-signal processors using TTL- and CMOS-compatible clocks in the frequency range from 1.1MHz to 5.5MHz.

The MAX121CWE is available in a space-saving 16-pin SOIC package, suitable for surface mount applications. Its features include 14-bit resolution, 2.9µs conversion time, 400ns acquisition time, low noise and distortion (78dB SINAD, -85dB THD), and an internal -5V reference with 30ppm/°C drift.

This ADC is well-suited for applications in digital signal processing, audio and telecom processing, speech recognition and synthesis, DSP servo control, and spectrum analysis.
