The MAX11008BETM+ is a specialized power management integrated circuit designed by Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) for biasing RF LDMOS power devices. It is commonly used in cellular base stations and other wireless infrastructure equipment.
This controller integrates a high-side current-sense amplifier with programmable gains of 2, 10, and 25, capable of monitoring drain currents from 20mA to 5A. It also supports external diode-connected transistors for LDMOS temperature monitoring, alongside an internal die temperature sensor. A 12-bit SAR ADC converts various analog signals, including temperature, current, and auxiliary inputs, while two 12-bit DACs generate positive gate voltages for LDMOS biasing. Each gate-drive output provides up to ±2mA of gate current.
The device includes 4Kb of on-chip nonvolatile EEPROM for storing lookup tables and register information. It supports both I2C and SPI/MICROWIRE serial interfaces. The MAX11008BETM+ operates from a +4.75V to +5.25V analog supply and a +2.7V to +5.25V digital supply, with typical supply currents of 2mA and 3mA, respectively. It is packaged in a 48-pin, 7mm x 7mm thin QFN package and operates across an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
Applications for the MAX11008BETM+ include cellular base stations, microwave radio links, feed-forward power amplifiers, transmitters, and industrial process control systems.
