The MA4AGSW1A is a single pole, single throw (SPST) absorptive PIN diode switch manufactured by MACOM Technology Solutions. It features an ultra-broad bandwidth, operating from 50 MHz up to 50 GHz, with a functional bandwidth extending to 70 GHz. This device exhibits a typical insertion loss of 0.5 dB at 50 GHz and provides 46 dB of isolation at the same frequency.
The switch utilizes Aluminum Gallium Arsenide (AlGaAs) PIN diodes fabricated using MACOM's patented hetero-junction technology, which results in lower loss compared to conventional GaAs processes. The diodes are passivated with silicon nitride and include a polymer layer for scratch protection during handling and assembly. Off-chip bias circuitry is required.
Designed for applications where signal reflection needs to be minimized, the output port (J2) is terminated into 50 Ω during isolation mode, absorbing the signal. This makes it ideal for instrumentation and radar systems. The low capacitance and low series resistance of the AlGaAs PIN diodes contribute to low insertion loss and distortion, suitable for microwave and millimeter-wave switch designs.
