The LTC4366 surge stopper protects loads from high voltage transients by controlling the gate of an external N-channel MOSFET. It regulates the output during an overvoltage transient, allowing the load to remain operational while the overvoltage is dropped across the MOSFET. A floating topology uses a resistor in the return line to isolate the device, enabling operation up to >500V limited only by external resistor ratings and MOSFET ratings.
Key specifications include a wide operating voltage range of 9V to >500V, an adjustable output clamp voltage, an adjustable overvoltage protection timer, and an internal 9-second cool-down timer. The shutdown supply current is less than 14µA. The LTC4366-2 version auto-retries after a fault.
