The LT4356IS-1#TRPBF from Analog Devices is a surge stopper IC that safeguards loads against high voltage transients. It achieves this by regulating the output during overvoltage events, such as automotive load dumps, through the control of an external N-channel MOSFET. The output is clamped to a safe level, allowing connected loads to continue functioning.
This device features a wide operating voltage range from 4V to 80V and provides reverse input protection down to -60V. It also includes overcurrent protection by monitoring the voltage drop between the VCC and SNS pins, with an internal amplifier limiting the current sense voltage to 50mV. An adjustable fault timer is initiated in either fault condition, inversely proportional to MOSFET stress.
The LT4356IS-1 variant offers a low shutdown current of 7µA. The LT4356-2 variant differs by reducing quiescent current to 60µA while keeping the auxiliary amplifier active for functions like undervoltage lockout or always-on regulation. The surge stopper is available in 12-pin DFN, 10-pin MSOP, and 16-pin SO packages, suitable for surface mount applications.
Applications for the LT4356IS-1#TRPBF include automotive and avionic surge protection, hot swap and live insertion capabilities, high-side switching for battery-powered systems, and intrinsic safety applications.
