The LT4356CMS-1#TRPBF by Analog Devices is a surge stopper IC that safeguards loads against high voltage transients. It achieves this by regulating the output during overvoltage events, such as automotive load dump scenarios, through the control of an external N-channel MOSFET. The output is clamped to a safe level, ensuring connected loads continue to function.
This device features a wide operating voltage range from 4V to 80V and provides reverse input protection down to -60V. It also includes overcurrent protection by monitoring the voltage drop across an external sense resistor. The LT4356 series offers adjustable fault timers and a shutdown pin. The LT4356-1 variant has a low shutdown current of 7µA, while the LT4356-2 has a slightly higher 60µA shutdown current but keeps the auxiliary amplifier active.
The LT4356CMS-1#TRPBF is available in 12-Pin DFN, 10-Pin MSOP, or 16-Pin SO packages, suitable for various board space constraints. It is guaranteed to operate up to 125°C, making it suitable for demanding environments. Applications include automotive and avionic surge protection, hot swap and live insertion, and high-side switching for battery-powered systems.
