LT1083CP-12

The LT1083CP-12 is a high-efficiency, 7.5A low dropout positive fixed voltage regulator designed by Linear Technology. It features a guaranteed dropout voltage of 1.5V at maximum output current and operates with an input-to-output differential as low as 1V. This device provides excellent regulation with a line regulation of 0.015% and a load regulation of 0.1%.

Designed for applications requiring significant current, the LT1083CP-12 is suitable for high-efficiency linear regulation, post-regulation for switching supplies, constant current regulation, and battery chargers. Its quiescent current flows into the load, contributing to its high efficiency compared to PNP regulators.

The regulator is available in a TO-220 package, suitable for through-hole mounting. It requires a 10µF output capacitor for stability, which is often included in typical regulator designs. The device is pin-compatible with older three-terminal regulators, simplifying upgrades.

Key electrical characteristics include a maximum input voltage of 30V and operating junction temperature ranges from -40°C to 150°C for the power transistor. The on-chip trimming ensures output voltage accuracy to within 1% and also trims the current limit for overload protection.
