The LT1039MJ from Linear Technology is a versatile triple RS232 driver/receiver designed for interface applications. This component includes a shutdown feature, allowing for power saving when not in use. Each receiver can accept inputs as low as -30V and drive TTL or CMOS logic, while the RS232 drivers accept TTL logic inputs and output RS232 voltage levels.
The drivers are fully protected against overloads and can be shorted to ground or up to -30V without damage. When the system is shut down or power is off, the outputs enter a high impedance state, enabling data line sharing. The bipolar circuitry ensures ruggedness against overloads and immunity to latchup. A BIAS pin is available to keep one receiver active while the rest of the part is shut down.
