The LP28053A is a complete constant-current/constant-voltage linear charger designed for single-cell lithium-ion and Li-Polymer batteries. Its ESOP-8 package and minimal external component requirements make it suitable for portable applications.
Key electrical features include an input voltage up to 28V, input over-voltage protection at 7V, and short-circuit protection. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, with a programmable charge current up to 1000mA. The device automatically terminates the charge cycle when the charge current drops to 1/10th of the setting current. It also features less than 1µA battery reverse current and protection against reverse battery connection.
Thermal feedback regulates the charge current to limit die temperature during high power operation or high ambient temperatures. The LP28053A enters a low current state (< 1µA battery drain current) when the input supply is removed. Other features include charge current monitoring, under-voltage lockout, automatic recharge, and a status pin.
