The LM86CIMM/NOPB from Texas Instruments is an 11-bit digital temperature sensor designed for accurate temperature monitoring. It features a two-wire SMBus serial interface, allowing it to measure its own temperature and the temperature of external devices like processor thermal diodes or diode-connected transistors.
Key specifications include a supply voltage range of 3.0V to 3.6V and a supply current of 0.8mA typical. The sensor offers a local temperature accuracy of ±3.0°C over a 25°C to 125°C range, and a remote diode temperature accuracy of ±0.75°C under specific conditions (TA=30°C, TD=80°C). The resolution is 11-bit for local sensing and 10-bit plus sign for remote sensing, with a data format resolution of 0.125°C.
Operating temperature ranges from 0°C to 125°C for the device itself, and it can sense temperatures from 0°C to 85°C. The LM86CIMM/NOPB includes features such as one-shot conversion, output switch, programmable limit, shutdown mode, and standby mode. It supports SMBus 2.0 protocol and has an ALERT output useful for system shutdown when temperatures exceed programmed limits.
This sensor is available in an 8-pin VSSOP package and is suitable for surface mounting. Its capabilities make it ideal for computer system thermal management in laptops, desktops, and workstations, as well as in electronic test equipment and office electronics.
