The LM3208TL is a miniature, adjustable step-down DC-DC converter designed for powering RF power amplifiers (PAs) from a single Lithium-Ion cell, though it is suitable for many other applications. It accepts an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and steps it down to an adjustable output voltage between 0.8V and 3.6V. The output voltage is controlled via a VCON analog input, allowing for precise power level and efficiency management for RF PAs.
This converter features a high switching frequency of 2 MHz (typical), which enables the use of small external surface-mount components, including just one inductor and two ceramic capacitors. It offers a maximum load capability of 650mA and can achieve high efficiency, up to 95% typical at 3.9V input and 3.4V output with a 400mA load. The device includes current overload and thermal overload protection for enhanced reliability.
The LM3208TL is available in an 8-pin lead-free micro SMD package, making it ideal for space-constrained mobile applications. Its fixed-frequency PWM operation helps minimize RF interference, and a shutdown function reduces battery consumption to 0.01 µA (typical) when not in use. The fast output voltage transient response is also beneficial for RF PA applications.
