The LM1972N from Texas Instruments is a digitally controlled, 2-channel audio attenuator fabricated on a CMOS process. It features a 78dB attenuation range with 0.5dB steps from 0dB to 47.5dB and 1.0dB steps from 48dB to 78dB. A mute function provides an additional 104dB of attenuation. The device boasts excellent performance with a Signal-to-Noise Ratio of 110dB (min) and channel separation of 100dB (min), along with a low Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise of 0.003% (max).
Designed for applications such as automated studio mixing consoles, music reproduction systems, and sound reinforcement, the LM1972N utilizes a 3-wire serial interface that is TTL and CMOS compatible. Its logarithmic attenuation curve can be customized via software. Transitions between attenuation settings are pop and click-free. The attenuator operates over a voltage range of 4.5V to 12V and has an operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C.
The LM1972N is available in a 20-PDIP package and is designed for through-hole mounting. Its performance is characterized by its logarithmic attenuation curve, pop-free transitions, and high channel separation, making it suitable for demanding audio control applications.
The attenuation range, excluding the mute function, is 78 dB.
The signal-to-noise ratio is a minimum of 110 dB, referenced at 4 Vrms.
The LM1972N supports 2 channels.
The operating voltage range is 4.5V to 12V.
The operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C.
The LM1972N is available in a 20-PDIP package designed for through-hole mounting.
