The Micrel Inc. KSZ8695PI, part of the CENTAUR family, is a single-chip PCI gateway solution designed for residential gateways and small office environments. It integrates a high-performance ARM9 CPU core operating at 166MHz, complete with 8KB I-cache and 8KB D-cache, and a Memory Management Unit (MMU) for Linux and WinCE support.

This device features a 33MHz 32-bit PCI interface (Version 2.1) supporting bus mastership and guest-mode operations. It includes five patented, low-power Fast Ethernet transceivers with corresponding MAC units, enabling flexible network configurations with one port for WAN and four for LAN switching. The integrated switch engine provides wire-speed, non-blocking performance with support for 802.1Q tag-based VLANs and Quality of Service (QoS).

The KSZ8695PI boasts an advanced memory interface supporting programmable 8/16/32-bit data and 22-bit address buses, allowing up to 64MB of total memory space for Flash, ROM, SRAM, SDRAM, and external peripherals. It also integrates a PCI arbiter supporting up to three external masters, facilitating the incorporation of various system interfaces, including wireless LAN modules.

Key features include XceleRouter technology for accelerated packet processing, 802.1D Spanning Tree Protocol support, and programmable rate-limiting per port from 0Mbps to 100Mbps. This chip is engineered to deliver high performance and BOM cost savings for OEMs developing feature-rich broadband gateway solutions.
