KMZ52 Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The KMZ52 from Philips is an extremely sensitive magnetic field sensor based on the magnetoresistive effect of thin-film permalloy. It incorporates two Wheatstone bridges offset by 90 degrees, along with integrated compensation and set/reset coils. This design allows for magnetic field measurements that are independent of sensitivity drift through current feedback loops. The orientation of sensitivity can be altered using the set/reset coils.

Key electrical specifications include a maximum bridge supply voltage of 8V, a typical bridge resistance of 123kΩ, and a typical compensation coil resistance of 170Ω. The typical field factor for the compensation coil is 22, and the set/reset coil resistance is typically 2Ω. For stable operation, a recommended flipping current of ±1000mA is suggested, with a typical flip pulse duration of 3μs.

Thermal characteristics include a maximum power dissipation of 130mW and a wide storage temperature range from -65°C to +150°C. The operating temperature range is from -40°C to +125°C. The KMZ52 is designed for surface mount applications.

Applications for the KMZ52 include navigation systems, current and earth magnetic field measurement, and traffic detection.
