ISO7420FED

The Texas Instruments ISO7420FED is a general-purpose digital isolator designed to provide galvanic isolation up to 2500 V RMS for 1 minute per UL standards. This device features two isolated channels, each with a logic input and output buffer separated by a silicon dioxide insulation barrier.

Key electrical specifications include a maximum data rate of 50 Mbps, a common mode transient immunity of 25 kV/µs, and a propagation delay of 11 ns. It operates over a wide temperature range of -40°C to 125°C and supports supply voltages from 3V to 5.5V. The low power consumption is notable, with typical ICC per channel at 3.3V supplies being 1.4 mA at 1 Mbps and 2.5 mA at 25 Mbps.

Designed for surface mounting, the ISO7420FED comes in a compact 8-SOIC package. Its isolation capabilities help prevent noise currents from interfering with or damaging sensitive circuitry when used in conjunction with isolated power supplies. The isolation barrier life is rated for over 25 years.

Safety and regulatory approvals include 4242 V PK isolation per VDE and IEC standards, as well as CSA component acceptance. This makes the ISO7420FED suitable for applications requiring robust noise immunity and protection between different ground domains.
