It functions as a SMPTE Time Code Receiver/Generator, supporting both Longitudinal Time Code (LTC) and Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC) formats, as well as MIDI Time Code (MTC) translation.

 

This IC meets SMPTE VITC and SMPTE/EBU LTC specifications. It offers features such as a programmable time code burn-in window, LTC edge rate control conforming to EBU Tr and Tf specifications, and flexible sync sources including genlock to video or house sync inputs. The device supports real-time SMPTE rates of 30 Hz, 29.97 Hz, 25 Hz, and 24 Hz, with time code modes for Drop Frame and Color Frame.

 

It can receive LTC signals with bit rates from 1/30th nominal to 80X nominal playback speed and can read VITC from any selected scan line, with a VITC search mode. The ICS2008BV includes a UART with a frequency of 38.4 KHz for tape transport control. Its processor interface is compatible with IBM PC and ISA bus computers, and it can be easily interfaced with other processors and micro-controllers.

 

The ICS2008BV is supplied in a 44-PLCC package, suitable for surface mounting. It is designed for professional video applications, offering robust time code generation and reception capabilities.
