ICM7216DIPI

The ICM7216B/D series from Renesas (formerly Intersil) are integrated 8-digit, multi-function frequency counters and timers with LED display drivers. These ICs combine an oscillator, timebase counter, data counter, latches, decoder, and drivers to directly interface with multiplexed LED displays.

The ICM7216B can function as a frequency counter, period counter, frequency ratio counter, time interval counter, or totalizing counter. The ICM7216D is specifically for frequency counting. Both versions support a maximum input frequency of 10MHz in frequency and unit counter modes, and 2MHz in other modes. They utilize a 1MHz or 10MHz quartz crystal timebase, offering resolutions down to 0.1µs for period and time interval measurements, and 0.1Hz for frequency with a 10s accumulation time.

These devices are designed for common cathode LED displays and require a single 5V supply. Features include leading zero blanking, internally generated decimal points, and a display-off mode for low power consumption. The ICM7216DIPI is housed in a 28-lead DIP package suitable for through-hole mounting.

Key specifications include a nominal 5V operating voltage, a frequency counter range up to 10MHz, and an operating temperature range of -25°C to 85°C.
