The Intersil ICL7662CPA is a monolithic high-voltage CMOS power supply circuit that performs supply voltage conversion from positive to negative. It accepts an input voltage range of +4.5V to +20.0V, resulting in complementary output voltages of -4.5V to -20V. This device requires only two non-critical external capacitors for its charge pump and charge reservoir functions. The ICL7662 can also function as a voltage doubler, capable of generating output voltages up to +38.6V with a +20V input.
Key features include a wide operating voltage range of 4.5V to 20.0V, 99.9% typical open-circuit voltage conversion efficiency, and 96% typical power efficiency. The internal circuitry includes a DC power supply regulator, RC oscillator, voltage level translator, and four output power MOS switches. The oscillator operates at a nominal frequency of 10kHz when unloaded with a 15V supply.
This voltage converter is suitable for applications such as on-board negative supplies for dynamic RAMs, localized microprocessor negative supplies, and inexpensive negative supplies for data acquisition systems. The ICL7662CPA is supplied in an 8-lead PDIP package suitable for through-hole mounting.
