The HMC586LC4B is a wideband GaAs InGaP Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) with an integrated buffer amplifier, designed for applications requiring a wide tuning bandwidth and low phase noise. It operates over a frequency range of 4 to 8 GHz, delivering a typical output power of +5 dBm. The device incorporates the resonator, negative resistance device, and varactor diode on a monolithic chip, eliminating the need for an external resonator.
This VCO is designed for a single +5V supply, consuming approximately 55 mA of current. It accepts an analog tuning voltage from 0 to +18V. The HMC586LC4B is housed in a compact 4x4 mm SMT package, making it suitable for space-constrained designs. Its performance is excellent over temperature due to its monolithic construction.
Typical applications include industrial/medical equipment, test & measurement equipment, and military radar, EW & ECM systems. The device offers low SSB phase noise of -100 dBc/Hz at a 100 kHz offset and -75 dBc/Hz at a 10 kHz offset. It is mounted using surface mount technology.
