The Holt Integrated Circuits Inc. HI-8428PST is an 8-channel discrete-to-digital sensor designed for avionics applications. Fabricated with robust Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) technology, it interfaces with systems via a 10MHz Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), allowing for efficient daisychaining.

 

Each of the eight discrete inputs is individually configurable as either GND/Open or Supply/Open (28V/Open). The input thresholds and hysteresis comply with the Airbus ABD0100H specification. In GND/Open mode, thresholds are set at 4.5V/10.5V, and in Supply/Open mode at 6V/12V. The device operates from a 3.3V (+/- 5%) digital supply and a 12V - 16.5V analog supply. A 1mA wetting current is sourced from each SENSE input in GND/Open mode to prevent dry relay or switch contacts.

 

All sense inputs are internally lightning protected to RTCA/DO160G, Section 22 Level 3 without external components. The HI-8428PST also withstands inadvertent application of 115V AC/400 Hz power to its sense inputs and is MIL-STD-704 compliant. It includes an internal self-test mode to check analog comparators and logic.

 

The HI-8428PST is available in industrial (−40°C to +85°C) and extended (−55°C to +125°C) temperature ranges. It comes in a 16-pin, narrow body SOIC package with an exposed heat pad and is a drop-in replacement for the DEI1282.
