HCS201-I/SN

The Microchip Technology HCS201-I/SN is a secure code hopping encoder IC utilizing KEELOQ® technology for Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) applications. It is designed for unidirectional remote keyless entry and access control systems, offering high security with a small package outline and low cost.

This encoder IC operates over a wide voltage range of 3.5V to 13V, with a minimum of 2.0V possible using its built-in step-up regulator. It supports 7 functions and features a selectable baud rate. Security is enhanced through a programmable 28-bit serial number and a 64-bit encryption key, with each transmission being unique due to a 66-bit code word length. This includes a 32-bit hopping code and a 34-bit fixed code.

The HCS201-I/SN is available in an 8-SOIC package and is designed for surface mount applications. It includes an on-chip EEPROM for storing keys, serial numbers, and configuration data, which is read-protected. The device also features internal pull-down resistors on its three button inputs and transmits a battery low signal to the receiver. Its simple programming interface and minimum component count make it a versatile solution for automotive RKE systems, alarm systems, immobilizers, and gate/garage door openers.

Typical applications include automotive RKE systems, automotive alarm systems, automotive immobilizers, gate and garage door openers, identity tokens, and burglar alarm systems. The device ensures that each transmission is unique, rendering code capture and resend schemes useless.
