The GC5318IZED from Texas Instruments is a high-density, multi-channel communications signal processor integrated circuit. It provides digital upconversion optimized for cellular base transceiver systems, supporting both UMTS and CDMA2000 (CDMA) air interface cellular standards.
The device offers up to 24 CDMA digital upconverter (DUC) channels or 12 UMTS DUC channels, and can also support a combination of both. Each DUC channel can operate independently. The GC5318IZED features 18-bit DUC outputs with rates up to 125 MSPS and a Signal-to-Noise and Distortion Ratio (SFDR) of 115 dB. It operates with a 1.5-V core voltage and 3.3-V I/O voltage.
Each output port can sum any of the DUC channels in a daisy-chain fashion, allowing for the creation of a stack of CDMA or UMTS signals. These ports can output either real or complex data. Real output data typically drives digital-to-analog converters, outputting the signal stack at an intermediate frequency (IF). Complex data, used with quadrature modulator upconversion schemes, can also be used for crest factor reduction or power amplifier predistortion techniques.
This IC is ideal for cellular base transceiver systems requiring a large number of digital radio channels. It is available in a 388-BGA Exposed Pad package and supports surface mount mounting.
