The FTDI FT234XD-R is a single-chip USB to asynchronous serial UART interface IC. It is optimized for smaller PCB designs with its compact 3mm x 3mm 12-pin DFN package.
This IC handles the entire USB protocol on-chip, eliminating the need for USB-specific firmware programming. It features integrated 2048-byte MTP memory for storing device descriptors and CBUS I/O configuration. The device supports data transfer rates from 300 baud to 3 Mbaud at TTL levels, with 512-byte receive and transmit buffers utilizing buffer smoothing technology for high throughput.
Key features include integrated clock generation, eliminating the need for an external crystal. It supports various UART configurations, including 7 or 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits, and parity options. The FT234XD-R also offers USB Battery Charging Detection and supports multiple USB power configurations (bus-powered, self-powered, and power switching).
Designed for a wide range of applications, including USB to RS232/RS422/RS485 converters, the FT234XD-R operates from a single +5V supply and includes internal 3.3V/1.8V LDO regulators. Its true 3.3V CMOS drive output and TTL input are tolerant of 5V input. The operating temperature range is extended from -40°C to 85°C.
