The FOD8332R2V from On Semiconductor is an advanced IGBT drive optocoupler designed for driving medium-power IGBTs and MOSFETs in motor-control inverter applications and high-performance power systems. It offers protection features to prevent destructive thermal runaway of IGBTs.

This optocoupler utilizes onsemi’s proprietary OPTOPLANAR® coplanar packaging technology for reliable high isolation and high noise immunity. It features a 2.5 A peak output current driving capability, a wide supply voltage range of 15 V to 30 V, and integrated IGBT protection including desaturation detection and under-voltage lockout (UVLO).

The device is housed in a 16-pin, small-outline, plastic package (SOIC) suitable for surface mounting. It operates within an extended industrial temperature range of -40°C to 100°C and meets safety and regulatory approvals including UL1577 and DIN-EN/IEC60747-5-5.

Key specifications include a high common-mode rejection of 35 kV/µs minimum, a maximum propagation delay of 250 ns, and a maximum pulse width distortion of 100 ns. The gate-driver channel uses an AlGaAs LED coupled to a high-speed driver circuit with a low-RDS(ON) MOSFET output stage, while the fault-sense channel provides optically isolated fault-sensing feedback.
