FOD8318R2

The FOD8318R2 from On Semiconductor is an advanced IGBT drive optocoupler featuring 2.5A output current capability, suitable for driving most 1200V / 150A IGBTs. It is designed for fast-switching applications in motor control inverters and high-performance power systems.

This optocoupler integrates a gate drive optocoupler with low RDS(ON) CMOS transistors for rail-to-rail IGBT driving and a high-speed isolated feedback for fault sensing. Key protection features include desaturation detection and under-voltage lockout (UVLO). It also incorporates an active Miller clamp to shut off the IGBT during high dv/dt situations without requiring a negative supply voltage.

The FOD8318R2 utilizes OPTOPLANAR® coplanar packaging technology for high noise immunity, characterized by high common mode rejection (35 kV/µs minimum). It operates over a wide supply voltage range of 15V to 30V and is housed in a compact 16-pin SOIC package that meets 8mm creepage and clearance requirements.

With a maximum propagation delay of 250 ns over the full operating temperature range of -40°C to 100°C, this device is well-suited for demanding industrial environments. It also boasts safety and regulatory approvals including UL1577 (4,243 VRMS) and DIN EN/IEC 60747-5-5 (1,414 Vpeak).
