The ON Semiconductor FOD8012AR2 is a half-duplex, bi-directional, high-speed logic gate optocoupler. It supports isolated communications, preventing ground loops and hazardous voltages. Utilizing advanced packaging technology, it achieves a minimum common mode noise rejection (CMR) rating of 20 kV/µs.
This optocoupler integrates two optically coupled channels in a bi-directional configuration, housed in a compact 8-pin SOIC package. Each channel consists of a high-speed AlGaAs LED coupled to a CMOS detector IC. The detector IC includes a photodiode, trans-impedance amplifier, and voltage comparator with an output driver.
Key electrical specifications include a maximum data rate of 15 Mbps (NRZ), a maximum propagation delay of 60 ns, and a maximum pulse width distortion of 15 ns. It is compatible with 3.3 V and 5 V CMOS logic levels. The operating temperature range is extended from -40°C to +110°C.
The FOD8012AR2 is suitable for applications such as industrial fieldbus communications (DeviceNet, CAN, RS485), microprocessor system interfaces (SPI, I2C), programmable logic control, isolated data acquisition systems, and voltage level translation. It is available in an 8-SOIC surface mount package.
