FAN54015UCX

The FAN54015UCX from ON Semiconductor is a versatile IC designed for single-cell Lithium-ion and Li-Polymer battery charging applications. It integrates a high-efficiency switch-mode charger to minimize charging time from USB power sources and a boost regulator to power USB peripherals from the battery.

This device offers programmable charging parameters, including input current, fast-charge/termination current, and charger voltage, via a high-speed I2C interface operating up to 3.4 Mbps. The charger and boost regulator circuits switch at 3 MHz, enabling the use of small external passive components. Key electrical specifications include a charge voltage accuracy of +0.5% at 25°C, a maximum charge rate of 1.45A, and a 5V, 500mA boost mode for USB OTG functionality.

The FAN54015UCX operates within a 4V to 6V supply voltage range and a -30°C to 85°C operating temperature range. It features fault protection for over temperature, over voltage, and short circuits. The IC is supplied in a compact 20-WLCSP package, suitable for surface mounting, and is available on reel packaging.

This charger IC automatically restarts the charge cycle when the battery voltage falls below a threshold and enters a high-impedance mode when the input source is removed to prevent battery drain. Charge current is reduced if the die temperature reaches 120°C for device protection.
