The FAN5033MPX is an 8-bit programmable, 2- to 3-phase synchronous buck controller designed by ON Semiconductor. It is optimized for converting a 12V input supply to the processor core voltage required by high-performance Intel processors.
This controller features selectable 2- or 3-phase operation at up to 1MHz per phase, with an internal 8-bit DAC that sets the output voltage between 0.5V and 1.6V in 6.25mV steps. It offers ±7.7mV worst-case differential sensing error over temperature and active current balancing between output phases. The device supports on-the-fly VID code changes with Power Good and Crowbar blanking.
Applications include desktop PC/server processor power supplies and VRM modules. The FAN5033MPX is specified for a commercial temperature range of 0°C to +85°C and is available in a 32-lead MLP package.
Key features include programmable soft-start ramp, programmable short-circuit protection, and compliance with Intel VR10 and VR11 specifications. The switching frequency is programmable via a single resistor value, and the number of phases can be set for two- or three-phase applications.
