FAN4146ESX

The FAN4146ESX from On Semiconductor is a low-power controller designed for AC outlet Appliance Leakage Circuit Interrupters (ALCI) and two-wire Residual Current Devices (RCD). This device detects hazardous grounding conditions and opens the line to prevent harmful shocks.

Internally, the FAN4146ESX integrates a diode rectifier, a 12V shunt regulator, a low VOS offset-sense amplifier, a time delay noise filter, window-detection comparators, and an SCR driver. With minimal external components, it protects against hot-wire-to-ground faults. The integrated circuitry operates with low quiescent current, enabling the use of a high-value, low-wattage series supply resistor.

The FAN4146ESX features a precision sense amplifier and bandgap reference, a built-in AC rectifier, and direct DC coupling to the sense coil. It also includes a built-in noise filter to reject high-frequency noise spikes, reducing nuisance tripping. The SCR gate driver is temperature compensated and designed to meet the current requirements for various external SCRs.

Packaged in a space-saving SuperSOT™-6 (SOT-23-6 Thin, TSOT-23-6) package, the FAN4146ESX is ideal for low-cost, compact applications. It is suitable for two-wire ALCI and RCD applications, personal care products, and electrical outlets, circuit breakers, and power cords requiring GFI safety features. The operating temperature range is -25°C to 80°C.
