The Altera FLEX 10K family, including the FLEX 10KA series, represents the industry's first embedded programmable logic devices (PLDs) designed for System-on-a-Programmable-Chip (SOPC) integration. The EPF10K50VRC240-3 model features an embedded array for implementing specialized logic functions and megafunctions, alongside a logic array for general-purpose logic.

This device offers high density, with 50,000 typical gates (logic and RAM) and a maximum of 116,000 system gates. It includes 2,880 logic elements (LEs), 360 logic array blocks (LABs), and 10 embedded array blocks (EABs) providing 20,480 RAM bits. The EPF10K50VRC240-3 supports a 5.0-V supply voltage and offers MultiVolt I/O interface support, with 5.0-V tolerant input pins. It also boasts low power consumption, typically less than 0.5 mA in standby mode.

System-level features include support for the PCI SIG PCI Local Bus Specification, Revision 2.2. The FLEX 10KA devices are designed with pull-up clamping diodes for 3.3-V PCI compliance and can support 5.0-V PCI buses with limited loads. Additionally, it incorporates Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) boundary-scan test (BST) circuitry compliant with IEEE Std. 1149.1-1990, without consuming device logic. The EPF10K50VRC240-3 is fabricated on advanced processes and is in-circuit reconfigurable via an external configuration device, intelligent controller, or JTAG port.
