The EMC1702-1-KP-TR from Microchip Technology is a versatile integrated circuit combining high-side current sensing with dual precision temperature monitoring. This device is designed to measure voltage across an external sense resistor to determine high-side current, and also measures source voltage for proportional power calculation. It includes bi-directional peak detection for current spikes with programmable duration and magnitude thresholds.
The EMC1702 offers advanced temperature measurement features, including Resistance Error Correction (REC) and Beta Compensation, supporting various CPU diode models. It provides two temperature monitoring channels: one internal diode for ambient temperature and one external diode channel. Both current sensing and temperature monitoring incorporate two tiers of protection with ALERT and THERM outputs.
With a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and a 3V to 24V bus voltage range, the EMC1702 is suitable for applications in notebook and desktop computers, industrial systems, and power management solutions. It communicates via an SMBus 2.0 interface and is available in a compact 12-pin 4mm x 4mm QFN package, designed for surface mounting.
Key electrical specifications include 1% current measurement accuracy and ±1°C accuracy for internal temperature monitoring. The device operates with a typical current consumption of 1.1mA.
