DS36C278M/NOPB Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The Texas Instruments DS36C278M/NOPB is a low-power differential bus/line transceiver designed to meet the requirements of the RS-485 standard for multipoint data transmission, and is also compatible with TIA/EIA-422-B.

This transceiver utilizes a CMOS design for significant power savings, making it suitable for battery-powered or power-conscious applications. It features a low ICC of 500 μA maximum. The driver and receiver outputs have TRI-STATE capability, and the driver outputs operate over a wide common mode range of -7V to +12V.

Key features include built-in power-up/down glitch-free circuitry for live transceiver insertion/displacement, and on-board thermal shutdown circuitry to prevent damage from excessive power dissipation. The receiver incorporates a fail-safe circuit that guarantees a high output state when inputs are left open. The device is specified for an industrial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C and is available in an 8-SOIC package.

This transceiver is a drop-in replacement for parts like the LTC485, MAX485, DS75176, and DS3695, offering guaranteed RS-485 device interoperation.
