The Analog Devices DS3254A3+ is a versatile quad-channel Line Interface Unit (LIU) that performs essential functions for interfacing at the physical layer to DS3, E3, or STS-1 lines. Each LIU port offers independent receive and transmit paths, along with a built-in jitter attenuator. This device supports an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and operates on a low power 3.3V supply, with 5V tolerant I/O.
Key features include an on-chip clock adapter that generates all line-rate clocks from a single input clock, supporting standards such as DS3, E3, STS-1, OC-3, and various MHz frequencies. It also incorporates B3ZS/HDB3 encoding and decoding capabilities. The LIU family is pin-compatible, offering flexibility with three control interface options: 8-bit parallel, SPI, and hardware mode. The jitter attenuators provide provisionable buffer depths of 16, 32, 64, or 128 bits.
This component is supplied in a compact 144-pin, 13mm x 13mm thermally enhanced CSBGA package, suitable for surface mounting. It is designed as a drop-in replacement for older DS3151/52/53/54 LIUs and supports IEEE 1149.1 JTAG. Applications include SONET/SDH and PDH multiplexers, digital cross-connects, access concentrators, ATM and Frame Relay equipment, routers, PBXs, DSLAMs, and CSU/DSUs.
The operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C.
The DS3254A3+ is supplied in a 144-TECSBGA (13x13) package.
The operating voltage is 3.3V.
The device supports DS3, E3, STS-1, OC-3, 19.44MHz, 38.88MHz, and 77.76MHz line rates.
Yes, it has a built-in jitter attenuator with provisionable buffer depths of 16, 32, 64, or 128 bits.
