DS3253

The Analog Devices DS3253 is a versatile triple Line Interface Unit (LIU) that performs essential physical layer functions for DS3, E3, or STS-1 lines. Each LIU features independent receive and transmit paths, along with a built-in jitter attenuator and an on-chip clock adapter that generates all necessary line-rate clocks from a single input. This device offers multiple control interface options, including 8-bit parallel, SPI, and hardware mode, providing flexibility in system integration.

Key features include standards-compliant transmit waveshaping, provisionable jitter attenuator buffer depths (16, 32, 64, or 128 bits), B3ZS/HDB3 encoding and decoding, and local/remote loopbacks. The DS3253 operates at a low power of 3.3V with 5V tolerant I/O and is specified for an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It is housed in a compact 144-pin, 13mm x 13mm thermally enhanced CSBGA package, making it a suitable drop-in replacement for older DS3151/52/53/54 LIUs.

Applications for the DS3253 include SONET/SDH and PDH multiplexers, digital cross-connects, access concentrators, ATM and Frame Relay equipment, routers, PBXs, DSLAMs, and CSU/DSUs. Its robust feature set and industrial temperature rating make it ideal for demanding telecommunications infrastructure.
