DS3251

The Analog Devices DS3251 is a versatile Line Interface Unit (LIU) that performs essential functions for interfacing with DS3, E3, or STS-1 lines at the physical layer. This single-channel device offers independent receive and transmit paths, along with a built-in jitter attenuator. An on-chip clock adapter simplifies clock generation by creating all necessary line-rate clocks from a single input clock.

Key electrical specifications include a low-power 3.3V operation (with 5V tolerant I/O) and a typical current draw of 80mA. The device supports B3ZS/HDB3 encoding and decoding. Control interface options include 8-bit parallel, SPI, and hardware mode, providing flexibility in system integration. It also features local and remote loopback capabilities.

Designed for demanding environments, the DS3251 operates within an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It is housed in a compact 144-pin, 13mm x 13mm thermally enhanced CSBGA package, suitable for surface mount applications. This LIU is a pin-compatible replacement for older DS3151/52/53/54 series devices, facilitating upgrades.
