The Analog Devices DS3251+ is a single-channel Line Interface Unit (LIU) that performs essential functions for interfacing with DS3, E3, or STS-1 lines at the physical layer. This device offers independent receive and transmit paths, along with a built-in jitter attenuator and an on-chip clock adapter that generates all necessary line-rate clocks from a single input clock.
Key features include multiple control interface options such as 8-bit parallel, SPI, and hardware mode. The jitter attenuator can be placed in either the receive or transmit paths and supports provisionable buffer depths of 16, 32, 64, or 128 bits. The DS3251+ supports B3ZS/HDB3 encoding and decoding, local and remote loopbacks, and operates on a low power 3.3V supply with 5V tolerant I/O.
Designed for demanding applications, the DS3251+ is suitable for SONET/SDH and PDH multiplexers, digital cross-connects, access concentrators, ATM and Frame Relay equipment, routers, PBXs, DSLAMs, and CSU/DSUs. It comes in a compact 144-pin, 13mm x 13mm thermally enhanced CSBGA package, making it a drop-in replacement for older DS3151/52/53/54 LIUs. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C.
