DS3171N+

The Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated DS3171N+ is a versatile single-chip transceiver designed for DS3 and E3 telecommunication interfaces. This IC integrates framer and LIU functionalities to interface with up to four physical copper lines. It supports independent configuration for each port, performing receive clock/data recovery and transmit waveshaping.

The device is capable of interfacing with 75-ohm coaxial cable up to 380 meters for DS3 and 440 meters for E3, utilizing 1:2 transformers on both transmit and receive paths. It features on-chip DS3 (M23 or C-Bit) and E3 (G.751 or G.832) framers, along with built-in HDLC controllers for overhead byte insertion/extraction. On-chip BERTs are included for pattern generation and analysis, complemented by large performance-monitoring counters.

Designed for robust operation, the DS3171N+ operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C and requires a supply voltage between 3.135V and 3.465V, drawing a current of 273mA. It is housed in a 400-PBGA (27x27mm) package and is designed for surface mount applications. The device offers various loopback modes, including line, diagnostic, framer, payload, and analog, with capabilities to insert AIS away from loopback directions. Ports can be disabled to conserve power.
