The DS3154N from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a quad Line Interface Unit (LIU) that performs physical layer interfacing for DS3, E3, or STS-1 lines. Each of the four ports offers independent receive and transmit paths, along with an integrated jitter attenuator that can be placed in either path. This device supports receive clock/data recovery and transmit waveshaping.
Key features include low-power 3.3V operation with 5V tolerant I/O, an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, and hardware or CPU bus configuration options. The DS3154N interfaces to 75Ω coaxial cable and requires minimal external components. It also supports local and remote loopbacks and IEEE 1149.1 JTAG.
Applications for the DS3154N include SONET/SDH and PDH multiplexers, digital cross-connects, access concentrators, ATM and Frame Relay equipment, routers, PBXs, DSLAMs, and CSUs/DSUs. The component is housed in a compact 144-pin, 13mm x 13mm thermally enhanced CSBGA package, suitable for surface mounting.
This LIU is designed for reliable performance in demanding telecom environments. Its robust feature set and industrial temperature rating make it a suitable choice for various network infrastructure and telecommunications equipment designs.
