The DS3144 from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a quad DS3/E3 framer designed for telecommunications applications. This integrated circuit provides all necessary circuitry to frame and format up to four separate DS3 or E3 channels. Each framer is independently configurable to support M23 DS3, C-Bit Parity DS3, or G.751 E3 standards.
The DS3144 interfaces with line interface units (LIUs), microprocessor buses, and other system components without requiring glue logic. Key features include integrated HDLC controllers, FEAC controllers, and Bit Error-Rate Testers (BERT) for each channel. It also supports large performance-monitoring counters and various loopback modes for diagnostics and testing.
Designed for flexibility, the DS3144 offers options for LIU interface (Binary NRZ or Dual-Rail POS/NEG) and B3ZS/HDB3 encoding/decoding. It can generate and detect DS3/E3 alarms, and supports external or loop-timing configurations. The device operates from a 3.3V supply with 5V tolerant I/O and is housed in a 144-pin CSBGA package.
Applications for the DS3144 include SONET/SDH Muxes, PDH Muxes, Digital Cross-Connect Systems, Access Concentrators, ATM and Frame Relay Equipment, and Routers. It also features IEEE 1149.1 JTAG support.
The DS3144 supports up to four separate DS3 or E3 channels.
