DS2784G+TR

The DS2784G+TR from Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated is a sophisticated 1-cell fuel gauge suitable for integration into battery packs utilizing single lithium-ion or Li+ polymer cells. It operates within a voltage range of 2.5V to 4.6V, making it ideal for a wide array of portable electronic devices.

This fuel gauge provides precise measurements of voltage, temperature, and current to estimate available capacity in mAh and as a percentage. It employs Coulomb counting, discharge rate, temperature, and cell characteristics for accurate capacity reporting. The device also includes Li+ safety circuitry for overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, and short-circuit protection, with programmable safety thresholds.

Communication is handled via a versatile 1-Wire interface, supporting speeds of 16kbps or 143kbps. This interface allows access to data and control registers, as well as user memory. A key feature is the SHA-1-based challenge-response authentication, enhancing pack security. The DS2784G+TR offers 32 bytes of parameter EEPROM and 16 bytes of user EEPROM for storing compensation parameters, application settings, or usage statistics.

The component is housed in a compact, Pb-free 14-pin TDFN package, designed for easy embedding in battery packs, especially those using thin prismatic cells. Its applications span health and fitness monitors, digital cameras, medical devices, handheld computers, radios, home automation sensors, smart batteries, and power tools.
