DS2780G+

The DS2780G+ from Analog Devices is a standalone fuel gauge IC specifically designed for rechargeable Lithium Ion and Lithium Ion Polymer batteries. It measures voltage, temperature, and current to estimate the available capacity of the battery pack. Cell characteristics and application parameters are stored in on-chip EEPROM for accurate calculations.

Key features include a precision measurement system, an accurate and temperature-stable internal time base, and capacity estimation derived from coulomb count, discharge rate, temperature, and battery cell characteristics. The device provides accurate warnings of low battery conditions and automatically backs up coulomb count and age estimation to non-volatile EEPROM. Gain and temperature coefficient calibration allow for the use of low-cost sense resistors.

This IC is suitable for applications such as digital still cameras, sub-notebook computers, handheld PCs, data terminals, and 3G multimedia wireless handsets. It operates within a temperature range of -20°C to 70°C (TA) and is available in a compact 10-TDFN (3x4) package, making it easy to embed in battery packs. The device utilizes a 1-Wire interface for communication.

The DS2780G+ supports 1-cell Lithium Ion/Polymer batteries. It offers 24 bytes of battery/application parameter EEPROM and 16 bytes of user EEPROM. The absolute maximum voltage range on any pin relative to VSS is -0.3V to +6.0V, with an operating voltage range for VDD specified between 2.5V to 4.5V.
