The DS2780E+T&R is a standalone fuel gauge IC designed to measure voltage, temperature, and current for rechargeable Lithium Ion and Lithium Ion Polymer batteries. It estimates available capacity based on cell characteristics and application parameters stored in on-chip EEPROM.
Key features include precision voltage, temperature, and current measurement, an accurate and temperature-stable internal time base, and capacity estimation from coulomb count, discharge rate, temperature, and battery cell characteristics. It provides accurate warnings of low battery conditions and automatically backs up coulomb count and age estimation to nonvolatile EEPROM. Gain and temperature coefficient calibration allow for the use of low-cost sense resistors.
This IC is suitable for applications such as digital still cameras, sub-notebook computers, handheld PCs, data terminals, and 3G multimedia wireless handsets. It operates within a temperature range of -20°C to 70°C (TA) and features a 1-Wire interface. The device is housed in a compact 8-pin TSSOP package, making it easy to embed in battery packs.
