The Analog Devices DS2715Z+TR is a versatile NiMH battery pack charge controller suitable for both internal and external battery pack configurations. It is optimized for safe and reliable charging of 1 to 10 NiMH cells in series, offering features like FAST-CHARGE up to a 2C rate and PRECHARGE/TOPOFF modes for cell conditioning.
This charge controller utilizes the dT/dt technique for full charge termination, requiring an external thermistor. Safety is enhanced through over-temperature, under-temperature, and over-voltage detection. A user-selectable charge timer allows for charge rates from 0.167C to 2C. The DS2715Z+TR also includes a discharge mode that allows the device to enter a low-power sleep state (less than 10µA) when the cell pack is being discharged.
Applications for the DS2715Z+TR include portable DVD players, portable television sets, handheld gaming devices, test equipment, and handheld POS terminals. It is available in a compact 16-pin SO package, suitable for surface mount applications.
