DS2715Z+T&R

The DS2715Z+T&R from Maxim Integrated is a versatile battery charger integrated circuit optimized for cost-sensitive applications requiring the charging of 1 to 10 NiMH cells in series. It supports both internal and external battery pack configurations.

This device features selectable charge current regulation, allowing it to function as a switched DC charger, linear current regulator, or switch-mode current source. It employs the dT/dt technique for full charge termination, which helps minimize cell stress. Additional safety features include over-temperature, under-temperature, and over-voltage detection, preventing charging under unsafe conditions. The DS2715Z+T&R also includes a user-selectable charge timer, enabling charge rates from 0.167C to 2C, along with FAST-CHARGE, TOPOFF, and DONE modes for enhanced reliability.

For cell conditioning, the IC includes PRECHARGE and TOPOFF modes. It also features a discharge mode that allows the DS2715Z+T&R to enter a low-power sleep state (less than 10µA) while the cell pack is being discharged. Load detection further supports this low-power operation. An LED output is provided to display the charge state.

The DS2715Z+T&R is supplied in a compact 16-pin SOIC package with a surface mount type. Its operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C (TA), and it supports an operating voltage of up to 16.5V. This IC is suitable for applications such as portable DVD players, handheld gaming devices, and test equipment.
