The DS2482S-100+ by Dallas Semiconductor is an I2C to 1-Wire bridge device designed for bidirectional protocol conversion. It interfaces directly with standard (100kHz max) or fast (400kHz max) I2C masters, acting as a 1-Wire master to downstream 1-Wire slave devices.
This bridge supports both standard and overdrive 1-Wire communication speeds, with internal, factory-trimmed timers that relieve the host processor from generating time-critical waveforms. The DS2482S-100+ features slew-rate control for optimized 1-Wire waveform generation and includes programmable features to match drive characteristics to the 1-Wire slave environment. It also offers programmable strong pullup capabilities for powering 1-Wire devices like EEPROMs and sensors, with an additional output to control an external MOSFET for enhanced strong pullup applications.
The device operates within a voltage range of 2.9V to 5.5V and is available in 8-pin SOIC and 8-bump WLP packages. The I2C slave address assignment is controlled by two binary address inputs, helping to resolve potential conflicts with other I2C slave devices in the system. Applications include printers, medical instruments, industrial sensors, and mobile devices like cell phones and PDAs.
