DS2438Z+TR

The DS2438Z+TR from Analog Devices is a Smart Battery Monitor designed to enhance battery pack functionality. It features a unique 1-Wire interface, requiring only a single port pin for communication, which simplifies system design and reduces connector count.

This device integrates several key functions for battery management. It includes an on-board A/D converter capable of monitoring battery voltage and current, facilitating end-of-charge and end-of-discharge determination. An integrated current accumulator helps track the total current flowing into and out of the battery, crucial for fuel gauging. Additionally, it provides a direct-to-digital temperature sensor, eliminating the need for external thermistors, and an elapsed time meter.

The DS2438Z+TR also offers 40 bytes of nonvolatile EEPROM memory for storing battery-specific data such as chemistry, capacity, and charging methodology. It operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and supports a power supply voltage from 2.4V to 10.0V. Its applications span portable computers, cellular phones, consumer electronics, and handheld instrumentation.

Packaged in a UCSP format, this component is designed for surface mount applications. The 1-Wire interface allows multiple DS2438 devices to coexist on the same bus, enabling simultaneous charging or use of multiple battery packs.
