DS2404B

The DS2404B EconoRAM Time Chip from Maxim Integrated is a versatile Real Time Clock (RTC) IC designed for storing and retrieving vital data and time information with minimal hardware. It features 4096 bits of nonvolatile dual-port SRAM, a real-time clock/calendar, a programmable interval timer, and a programmable power-on cycle counter.

Communication is facilitated through two separate ports: a 1-Wire interface for MicroLAN communication and a 3-wire host interface for high-speed data transfer. The 1-Wire port requires only a single pin and allows the unique, factory-lasered ROM to be read even when the device is unpowered. The 3-wire interface offers traditional high-speed communication.

This IC is partitioned into 16 pages of 256-bit memory for efficient data packetizing and includes a 256-bit scratchpad with strict read/write protocols to ensure data integrity. Programmable alarms can generate interrupts for the interval timer, real-time clock, and cycle counter. The DS2404B operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and a supply voltage range of 2.8V to 5.5V.

It is available in a 16-pin SSOP package, suitable for surface mount applications. The device's features make it ideal for applications such as stopwatches, alarm clocks, time and date stamp logging, hour meters, and system power-cycle timers.
