This device includes a line interface unit (LIU), framer, HDLC controllers, and a TDM backplane interface, controlled via an 8-bit parallel port.

 

Key features include support for short- and long-haul line interfaces, CMI coder/decoder, crystal-less jitter attenuator, and on-chip programmable BERT generator and detector. It also offers internal software-selectable termination resistors for 75Ω/100Ω/120Ω T1 and E1 interfaces, and dual two-frame elastic-store slip buffers.

 

The DS21455 operates with a 3.3V supply and features 5V tolerant inputs and outputs. It is supplied in a 256-BGA (27mm x 27mm) package, suitable for surface mounting. This IC is designed for applications such as routers, channel service units (CSUs), data service units (DSUs), muxes, switches, channel banks, and T1/E1 test equipment.

 

This device is a direct replacement for the older DS21Q55 quad MCM device. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C, with a supply voltage range of 3.135V to 3.465V.
